The chess pieces are thoughtfully reimagined as iconic symbols of New York City, with the ever-watchful Statue of Liberty as the Queen, pigeons as Knights, and the hustle of yellow cabs as Pawns. This unique concept was conceived and designed by Christoph Niemann, a renowned artist and long-time contributor to The New Yorker. Niemann selected and transformed key New York landmarks and symbols into chess pieces, designing them to resemble 3-dimensional spot illustrations from the magazine.

The Printworks x The New Yorker chess set is a true collector's item, designed to stand out as a centerpiece for any coffee table or shelf. It will be available globally through Printworks' website, The New Yorker's online store, and select retailers.
