This autumn, Printworks and Moomin come together to introduce a collectible wooden chess set inspired by the beloved world of Moominvalley. Bringing Tove Jansson's iconic characters to the chessboard, the collaboration combines storytelling, craftsmanship and timeless play in a contemporary interpretation of the classic game.

At the heart of the design is a cast of carefully sculpted wooden chess pieces, each representing a beloved character or landmark from Moominvalley. Moomintroll, Moominmamma, Moominpappa, Snufkin, Mymble and Little My are brought to life through distinctive wooden forms that capture their unique personalities and silhouettes. The Moominhouse itself is reimagined as the rook, creating a playful connection between the game's strategic traditions and the storytelling heritage of Tove Jansson's universe.

Inspired by Printworks' contemporary Scandinavian design language and the timeless charm of the Moomin universe, this wooden chess set is crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Housed in a book-shaped box, a fitting tribute to the literary world where these beloved characters first came to life, it seamlessly blends storytelling with design. The result is a modern collectible that honours both storytelling and craftsmanship, an object designed to be lived with, displayed and passed on.

"Collaborating with Moomin has been incredibly inspiring. There is something deeply human and enduring in these stories. Their warmth, sense of wonder and gentle wisdom continue to resonate across generations. We wanted to create an object that carries that spirit through its materials, form and craftsmanship."

Patrik Westerdahl
Creative Director and Co-founder of Printworks.

The chess set will launch in September and will be available on the Printworks website and through selected retailers.
