En 1945, el arquitecto Lian Pontes de Carvalho inventó el juego de raqueta con el atractivo nombre de “Frescobol”. La idea era un equivalente brasileño del tenis, pero sin la competitividad. En lugar de ganar a toda costa, la esencia de este juego es la cooperación. No hay ganadores ni perdedores. El único objetivo es mantener la pelota en el aire juntos el mayor tiempo posible.
